Born on Mardi Gras, Lucky Beaucoup brings the soul and spirit of the holiday to every event and party.

Matty V Hartless, a long-time Portland music veteran of stage and studio, explains, “A good friend with The Mysti Krewe Of Nimbus asked if I could put together a group to play an after party, following their annual Mardi Gras Parade on Mississippi Avenue. I said, ‘give me an hour!’”.

“I had an idea to fit the occasion, with myself on bass and lead vocals, surrounded by guitars, keys, multiple drums, horns, a fiddle to round things out... I was able to find players in no time.”

Years of playing bass, singing, co-writing and recording with countless local performers paid in spades, and a jammin’ new project was created around the former sideman, who has now stepped to the fore.

“This gives me more of an opportunity to step up front, sing lead and guide the band, which is my best place’, Hartless shares. “It also allows for me to write for a new character that is for me, as opposed to writing songs with other performer’s voices in mind. A character that likes to live large and let it all hang out, while bringing everyone else along for the ride”.

Lucky B currently has two original studio songs, recorded in late 2019. “Lucky Beaucoup” and “Florabama” feature a ‘Cajun fiddle vibe’. More recording is due in the upcoming months, featuring a horn section, and tunes that promise to bring even more of the boogie!

In addition to featuring a healthy dose of original work to the live set, Lucky Beaucoup performs a long list of thematic covers that include artists such as Dr. John, JJ Cale, and Allen Toussaint, to name but a few…
